Announcement on the Future of Hawaii Tokai International College

The Board of Trustees of Hawaii Tokai International College (HTIC) has approved a plan for the orderly and phased conclusion of the College’s academic operations, following a comprehensive review of enrollment trends, financial sustainability, and long-term institutional viability.

HTIC will continue to operate during a multi-year teach-out period to ensure that all currently enrolled students, as well as those admitted through the final intake, are able to complete their academic programs or transfer to appropriate institutions if necessary.

On February 26, 2026, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) acknowledged HTIC’s request for voluntary withdrawal from ACCJC membership effective September 28, 2029, as part of this planned transition. The Commission also recognized HTIC’s commitment to maintaining accreditation and compliance throughout the teach-out period.

The current timeline is as follows:

  • Final intake for the College Preparatory Program: April 2027

  • Final intake for the Liberal Arts Program: April 2028 (with the exception of CP students advancing into the Liberal Arts Program)

  • Final graduation ceremony: June 22, 2029

  • Conclusion of academic operations: September 2029

HTIC will continue to provide academic instruction, advising, and student services throughout this period. Additional updates will be shared on this website as further information becomes available.
