Academic English Program (CP)
What is CP Program?
The College Preparatory Program is an academic English language curriculum designed for non-native English-speaking students who need to enhance their language skills to immediately pursue an Associate in Arts degree at HTIC.
CP Program is for
Non-native speakers of English who need English language support
Students who want to build academic readiness
Students intending to transition into the HTIC Liberal Arts Program and 4-year institutions in and outside of the U.S.
What You Will Achieve
Prepares students for college-level study and entry into HTIC’s Liberal Arts Program.
Contact Hours
CP students have 18-22 contact hours.
Program Length
Typically completed in 1–5 terms (10 weeks per term), depending on English proficiency.
How the CP Program works
The College Preparatory Program is made up of four progressive levels (CP1 to CP4). Each level combines English language learning with academic subject content to help students gain the skills they need to succeed in college-level coursework. Find out more about CP Program curriculum.
Starting at HTIC
Upon entering HTIC, you’ll take the TOEFL to ensure you’re placed at the appropriate English proficiency level.

Course Completion Requirements
To progress to the Liberal Arts Program, students must:
Achieve an average of 70% or higher in final assessments for all courses in each level.
Achieve a final grade of “C” or “C-” or better, depending on the course, for all courses in each level.
Maintain a term and cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
Pass the final written assessment of ENG 21 and ENG 22 through a review process conducted by an evaluation panel.
