After you apply

An application for admission may be made at any time, but no later than the published application dates indicated above for admission to a specific term. Every effort will be made to review and evaluate applications on a timely basis.

  • All applications (international or domestic) will be processed within 2 weeks.

Once accepted, you’ll have one month to confirm or defer your enrollment. Admission can be deferred for up to one calendar year without reapplying.

1. HTIC Application

HTIC application includes:

  • Admissions Essay

    • 300 - 500 words required for direct admission to the Liberal Arts Program

    • Optional for College Preparatory applicants

  • Copy of Passport

  • $100 non-refundable Application Fee

2. Transcripts

  • At the time of application, upload a copy of your high school transcript.

  • Upon acceptance, submit the official final transcript through your institution.

    • U.S. transcripts must be sent directly from the school to HTIC at:
      Hawaii Tokai International College Office of Admissions
      91-971 Farrington Highway
      Kapolei, HI 96707 U.S.A.

  • Note:

    • International transcripts can be submitted with your other documents.

    • Make sure the GPA is on a 4.0 scale.

If transcripts are unavailable:

  • provide a certificate showing completion of high school education with minimum GPA: 2.5 (for both freshmen and transfers)

3. English Language Proficiency

  • Submit one of the following (for Liberal Arts Program) showing a minimum score of:
    TOEFL iBT: 61
    TOEFL PBT: 500
    IELTS: 6.0
    PTE: 44
    Duolingo: 95

  • Scores recommended, but not required, for College Preparatory Program

    Note: HTIC TOEFL Code is 9831

4. Financial Support Statement

Bank statement from sponsor (must show at least $28,860 USD in available funds)

5. Housing Application

International students are required to live in the on-campus housing for the first two terms. 

  • $20 Application Fee (if accepted and enrolled, this fee will go towards the student’s first-term tuition payment).

  • Yes. Once an international student is accepted and confirms their intent to enroll, HTIC can issue a Form I-20 to support their F-1 student visa application.

  • TOEFL iBT, IELTS, Duolingo English Test, Pearson Test of English EIKEN, and other recognized exams. For the ESL/College Prep Program, scores may be recommended but placement testing can occur after arrival.

  • Yes. Adequate health insurance is required for course registration. HTIC provides guidance on approved plans.

  • On F-1 visas, on-campus work up to 20 hours/week during term and full-time during breaks (subject to availability). International students also have the option to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) upon completion of their A.A. degree (subject to SEVIS approval). Consult the Office of Student Services for further details.
