Study abroad is for
Students who are non-native speakers of Japanese or Korean language
Learners eager to live and study in a new country
Anyone wanting to dive deep into local culture and make global friends
Program Length
One academic term—available in either the Fall or Spring semester.
What You Will Achieve
Earn transferable credits and gain meaningful experience studying abroad in Japan or South Korea.

We currently offer study abroad opportunities in Japan (Tokai University Shonan Campus) and South Korea (Hanyang University).









How Study Abroad works
Here's a step-by-step look at the study abroad process.
Step 3
Submit your application, along with travel documents, and spend a term in Japan or South Korea.
Step 4
Come back, share your story, and reflect on your experience through a short presentation.
Step 2
Meet with your advisor and complete the minimum course requirements prior to studying abroad.
Step 1
Enroll as a full-time student at HTIC and declare the Concentration in your first term.
Eligibility Requirements
Course Requirements
Complete two terms as a full-time student in HTIC’s Liberal Arts program
Take Japanese 103 or Korean 101 (3 credits) at HTIC or pass a test demonstrating equivalent ability in one of these languages before leaving for study
Take at least six additional credits at HTIC in East-Asia related studies before or after the study abroad experience
Upon return to HTIC, give a presentation in the language studied and submit a cross-cultural reflection paper discussing the study abroad experience
Travel Requirements
Be able to go abroad during the Fall or Spring term
Have a valid passport and visa (HTIC and the student’s host institution will assist students in obtaining the appropriate visa for study)
Purchase appropriate travel and health insurance
