What is LA Program?
A two-year Associate in Arts degree program focused on general education and global learning. Designed to prepare students for transfer to four-year universities in the U.S., Japan, or beyond.

Program Length
Typically completed in 5 terms (15 months), depending on course load and academic progress.
What You Will Achieve
Graduates receive an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree in Liberal Arts, preparing them for transfer to four-year universities or entry into various career paths.
Units Earned
A minimum of 60 credits in courses numbered 100 and above is required for graduation.

How the LA Program Works
The Liberal Arts Program (LA) is an accredited program that introduces students to various fields of knowledge. Courses within this curriculum emphasize active learning techniques, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding. After completing the program, students earn an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree.
Prerequisite
High school graduation or GED
&
English proficiency is met by one of the following: TOEFL iBT ≥ 61, PTE ≥ 44, Duolingo ≥ 95, or Completion of the CP Program

Degree Requirements
Complete a minimum of 60 credits in courses numbered 100 and above;
Complete the following Student Learning Outcome (SLO) courses with a “C” or higher:
1 Cooperative Learning Intensive (CLI) course (3 credits),
1 Creativity (CT) course (1 credit),
1 Cross-Cultural Understanding (CCU) course (3 credits),
2 Oral-Intensive (OI) courses (6 credits), and
4 Writing-Intensive (WI) courses (12 credits)
Achieve a grade of “C” or higher in ENG 100 and ENG 200;
Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0;
Complete at least the last 18 credits of coursework at Hawaii Tokai (other credits can be transferred from other accredited colleges); and
Have no financial obligations due to the College

Concentrations
Students in the Liberal Arts Program have the option of adding a concentration. Concentrations guide students toward a possible future in the selected area of study.
Business Foundation
Build expertise in accounting, economics, and business writing, plus earn a practical certificate with your A.A. degree.
Discover East Asia: Language and Cultural Immersion
Advance your Japanese or Korean skills, explore culture, and gain hands-on international experience.
Peace Studies
Examine peace, conflict, and human rights, complete a capstone research project, and earn a Peace Studies certificate.
