Governor David Ige announced that the State of Hawai’i’s Pre-Travel Testing Program began on October 15, 2020, which enables travelers to avoid a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine if they are tested negative for COVID-19 with a FDA-approved nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) no earlier than 72 hours before arriving in Hawai’i.

For international students, we understand that the State of Hawai’i is working with the Japanese government on authorizing state-approved COVID-19 tests.  It should be available shortly, however, if you cannot obtain the test, Hawai’i Tokai is working with the State of Hawai’i on doing a post-arrival COVID-19 test for international students who are coming to the campus.  This would allow students a shorter self-quarantine period (most likely around 3-5 days) after which, students can attend classes and participate in all college-related activities.  During the self-quarantine period, students are required to stay at a designated hotel or other accommodation approved by the State of Hawai’i.  If you do decide to travel to Hawai’i, you must arrive in O’ahu before January 4, 2021 and inform the Office of Student Services (OSS@tokai.edu).
