The frequently asked questions and answers below are assumed as to the information we have as of January 26, 2023 and may be subject to change in the future.

What is Hawaii Tokai International College doing to protect their students?

Have classes returned to in-person?

Yes. Classes have returned to in-person lessons starting from the Spring 2021 Term. Because of the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to make classes available online only for those students who have tested positive or are in quarantine awaiting testing results.

All student services such as academic advising and counseling are also available in-person.

Are on-campus events being canceled?

No. All on-campus gatherings and events have resumed from the Spring 2021 Term.

Are extracurricular events and club activities being canceled?

No. All extracurricular events and club activities will resume from the Summer 2021 Term. 

STUDENT SERVICES

Is the Office of Student Services (OSS) open?

The Office of Students Services (OSS) will be open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. 

Is the Library Learning Center (LLC) open?

The Library Learning Center (LLC) will be open to students on Sundays from 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Is tutoring being offered?

Tutoring is offered on Sundays from 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. and Monday – Thursday from 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

If students are interested in accessing tutoring, schedules, or any other information, they should check out the “Links” tab in the library section of Populi. Is St. Luke’s Clinic (health services) open?

St. Luke’s Clinic will be on campus on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in room A-234.

Appointments can be made by calling 808-945-3719. Walk-ins are accepted when space is available. 

Is the Ho’omau Counseling Center open?

The Ho’omau counseling center is open. For individual counseling appointments, please email hticcc@tokai.edu to make an appointment. Other services include peer support groups and drop-in times at the Aloha Room.

What should I do if I feel anxious or need help managing my feelings?

We understand that the current news and situation with COVID-19 may make people feel anxious. If you would like to seek counseling or help with managing your feelings, you may contact the Ho’omau Counseling Center by emailing hticcc@tokai.edu.

COMMENCEMENT

When will commencement be held for Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 graduates?

Hawaiʻi Tokai International College’s Commencement Ceremony for students completing degree requirements in the Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 Terms has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2021. For more information regarding Commencement, please contact the Office of Student Services (OSS).

COVID-19

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Do I need to wear a mask?

Mask wearing is no longer required on campus. To ensure the safety of our Hawaiʻi Tokai ohana, we would like to encourage those who do not feel well to wear a mask and remember to wash and sanitize often.

How do I practice social distancing?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping a safe space between yourself and other people who are not from your household.

To practice social or physical distance, stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people who are not from your household in both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Social distancing should be practiced in combination with other everyday preventive actions to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including wearing cloth face coverings, avoiding touching your face with unwashed hands, and frequently washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

How can I protect myself and others?

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid close contact by maintaining 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others.
  • Always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow and do not spit. Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
  • Monitor your health daily by being alert for symptoms and taking your temperature.

What should I do if I feel sick?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the symptoms of COVID-19 include the following:

  • New loss of taste or smell

If you are experiencing these symptoms or need further advice, please visit a doctor. If you will be missing class, please communicate this to your instructors. If you need any other assistance, please contact the Office of Student Services (OSS).

TRAVEL

Can I travel within the U.S.?

Yes, there are no longer any COVID-related requirements for arriving domestic passengers. Additionally, as of June 12, 2022, the U.S. federal government no longer requires a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test result or recovery from COVID-19 documentation

If I’m abroad, can I travel to Hawaiʻi?

VISITORS

Are visitors allowed on campus?

Visitors are allowed on campus after checking in with Security.

Visitors are allowed in the dormitory on Sunday – Thursday from 7:00a.m.-10:00p.m. and Friday – Saturday from 7:00a.m.-11:00p.m.

Are campus tours still being offered?
