The frequently asked questions and answers below are assumed as to the information we have as of January 26, 2023 and may be subject to change in the future.

COVID-19

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

What should I do if I feel sick?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the symptoms of COVID-19 include the following:

If you are experiencing these symptoms please stay in your room or home, schedule an appointment with the St. Luke’s Clinic or your doctor, and contact the Office of Student Services (OSS).

Do I need to wear a mask?

Mask wearing is no longer required on campus. To ensure the safety of our Hawaiʻi Tokai ohana, we would like to encourage those who do not feel well to wear a mask and remember to wash and sanitize often.

How Can I protect myself and others?

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow and do not spit. Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
  • Monitor your health daily by being alert for symptoms and taking your temperature.

Travel

Can I travel within the U.S.?

Yes, there are no longer any COVID-related requirements for arriving domestic passengers. Additionally, as of June 12, 2022, the U.S. federal government no longer requires a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test result or recovery from COVID-19 documentation

If I’m abroad, can I travel to Hawaiʻi?

Yes, however, beginning January 5, 2023, travelers from China, Hong Kong and Macau will be required to present a negative COVID-19 pre-travel test.

Campus Operations

Have classes returned to in-person?

Yes. Classes have returned to in-person lessons starting from the Spring 2021 Term. Because of the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to make classes available online only for those students who have tested positive or are in quarantine awaiting testing results.

All student services such as academic advising and counseling are also available in-person.

Are on-campus events being canceled?

No. All on-campus gatherings and events have resumed from the Spring 2021 Term.

Are extracurricular events and club activities being canceled?

No. All on-campus gatherings and events have resumed from the Spring 2021 Term.

STUDENT SERVICES

Is the Office of Student Services (OSS) open?

The Office of Students Services (OSS) will be open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. 

Is tutoring being offered?

Tutoring is offered on Sundays from 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. and Monday – Thursday from 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

If students are interested in accessing tutoring, schedules, or any other information, they should check out the “Links” tab in the library section of Populi. Any other questions can be emailed to Josh Dela Rosa, the Library & Learning Center Coordinator, at jdelarosa@tokai.edu or Chris Kopp, the Head Librarian, at ckopp@tokai.edu.

Is the Ho’omau Counseling Center open?

The Ho’omau counseling center is open. For individual counseling appointments, please email hticcc@tokai.edu to make an appointment. Other services include peer support groups and drop-in times at the Aloha Room.

Is the Library Learning Center (LLC) open?

The Library Learning Center (LLC) will be open to students on Sundays from 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Is St. Luke’s Clinic (health services) open?

Tutoring is offered on Sundays from 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. and Monday – Thursday from 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

What should I do if I feel anxious or need help managing my feelings?

We understand that the current news and situation with COVID-19 may make people feel anxious. If you would like to seek counseling or help with managing your feelings, you may contact the Ho’omau Counseling Center by emailing hticcc@tokai.edu.

Visitors

Are visitors allowed on campus?

Visitors are allowed on campus after checking in with Security.

Visitors are allowed in the dormitory on Sunday – Thursday from 7:00a.m.-10:00p.m. and Friday – Saturday from 7:00a.m.-11:00p.m.

Are campus tours still being offered?
