TRANSFER TO U.S UNIVERSITIES

Transfer to U.S. Universities

The Hawaiʻi Tokai Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts is designed for students interested in continuing their studies and earning baccalaureate degrees at four-year colleges or universities. Over 95% of Hawaiʻi Tokai Liberal Arts students graduate with the Associate of Arts degree and over 80% of these graduates transfer to institutions awarding baccalaureate degrees.

Three plan options are available for students based on their transfer intentions:

1. The American University Plan:

This degree plan is recommended for students who are interested in earning a baccalaureate degree from a U.S. college or university, and wish to start their program of study at Hawaiʻi Tokai and transfer to a 4-year institution after completing their Associate in Arts degree.

2. The Tokai University Plan:

This degree requirement plan is recommended for students who are interested in earning a baccalaureate degree from Tokai University or other Japanese universities, but who wish to start their program of study at Hawaiʻi Tokai and transfer after graduation. This plan is open to all students with Japanese language fluency.

3. The General Education Plan:

This degree requirement plan is for students who are interested in a U.S. Associate in Arts degree as their final educational goal. These students are interested in pursuing technical studies or employment after graduation from Hawaiʻi Tokai.

Articulation Agreements and Active Transfer Relationships
between Hawaiʻi Tokai and other Colleges/Universities

Hawaiʻi Tokai International College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. At the discretion of the receiving school, students may transfer credits to and from other accredited American colleges and universities. As these credits count toward the 4-year institution’s core requirements, after transferring, Hawaiʻi Tokai graduates can focus on courses that fulfill the requirements toward their major.

In order to facilitate the transfer of Hawaiʻi Tokai students to 4-year institutions in the U.S. and abroad, the College maintains a number of active transfer relationships, including articulation agreements, with the following institutions:

Currently studying at University of Massachusetts Amherst
It wasn’t easy to discover University of Massachusetts Amherst amongst all universities in America, but I was able to make the decision to go to this university with the help of the advisors at Hawaiʻi Tokai. There have been many days where I cannot believe I am where I am, but I learned to be confident and meet all kinds of people through it all. There were times when I envied my friends’ who stayed to study in Japan; however, you should take advantage of your youth and experience all that the world has to offer. Studying abroad may seem intimidating. As I struggle with anxiety, my confidence in my abilities to study abroad faltered. Hawaiʻi Tokai helped me overcome these issues by teaching me the basics of English and life in America. Also, it’s Hawaiʻi! There are so many fun things to do if you open your mind. Hawaiʻi Tokai is a small school, but everyone becomes a big family so you are never alone. The days you will spend at Hawaiʻi Tokai will be unforgettable, so please take it a small step full of courage – a new world is waiting for you.Your content goes here.
